…because Mr. Bearcy attends story meetings.
Stop a minute and appreciate this:
Once upon a time, a fabulous fan knitted a bear wearing a bow tie and newsie cap and gave it to the head writer. The bear is now attending story meetings, and we’re being gifted with photographic proof.
Why is that a big deal?
To me, this post from Bernie’s instagram sums up the unusual relationship between the LBD creative team and the LBD fandom. It is one we are lucky to have. In this fandom it isn’t just about the fans enjoying the show and admiring and wanting to thank the team (although certainly those things are true). The special part of this is the fact that the creative team admires and wants to thank the fandom. We’re actually on a two way street in this fandom— and that is unusual.
Many people from the Pemberley Digital creative team, cast, and crew voluntarily seek a relationship with the fans. Not on a “follow this account to get the latest updates” level, but on a “we are genuinely impressed by the things you create, the thought you put into analyzing our show, and the enthusiasm you have for recruiting new fans” level.
For me, this picture essentially says, “When fans create things, we don’t roll our eyes and think they are silly. We respect what the fans contribute. We enjoy the things fans create. Not only do we freely admit it, but we remind you of it every time we have the chance. (Sometimes instead of saying it in words, we say it by hugging the bear you gave us.)”
